ネパール・ヒマラヤの氷河湖決壊洪水（GLOF）
米国ナショナルジオグラフィック協会から支援を受けた調査がネパールの新聞Nepali Times ('Lake 464', 2014年６月2日)で紹介されました。 記事へのアクセス（英語です）。北海道大学からは，澤柿教伸助教，ダモダール・ラムサール（当時・博士課程在籍）と私が参加しました。
マスコミの間でも頻繁に取り上げられているイムジャ氷河湖（サガルマータ国立公園内）で，1988年以来，地形学的な調査を行っています。また，2009年からは，マカルー・バルン国立公園のヒンクー・ホンクー谷で，アメリカの研究者と共同で氷河湖の調査をはじめました。この地域には多数の氷河湖が密集しており，いくつかの湖が危険であることがネパールの研究機関によって指摘されています。2009年から2011年には，米国ナショナルジオグラフィック協会から助成金を得て調査を行いました。
やっかい視される氷河湖ですが，イムジャ氷河湖では氷河湖からの排水を発電に利用できないか議論を始めています。

ネパールの土地利用・土地被覆変化，地表面変動，森林伐採，観光開発
ネパールでは，従来から森林伐採の進行が問題視されてきました。しかし，実際には多様です。主としてネパールの研究者と，森林・農地などの土地利用・土地被覆変化と観光開発，家畜飼育形態の変化への観光の影響，地表面変動に関する調査を行っています。
