For Establishing Sustainable Society in the Pamir, Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan)

The aim of our research is to contribute to establish sustainble mountain societies in the Pamir through developing geoecotourism and sustainable agriculture. Strengthening sustainability in human-domestic animals-wildlife is the major focus.

We are helping the PALM (Sustainable Land Management in the High Pamir and Pamir-Alai Mountains) prject led by the United National University from the academic aspects. Hokkaido University takes a role of the Japanese research node. Contributing members belong to: Hokkaido University, Nihon University, Shinshu University and Rikkyo University (until 2011). As of 2011, we have new members from Miyagi University, Teikyo University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

Our research has/has had financial supports from the Ministry of Education (2005 - 2007, 2008 - 2010, 2011 - 2014), Fukutake Foundaition (2008), and Sumitomo Foundation (2005 - 2006).
